AN EVENING DEDICATED TO CELEBRATING THE TALENTS OF LOCAL YOUNG FILM MAKERS. For anybody under 25 wishing to enter a film, applications are available from the Flavel Box Office with more details of where to send the DVD. The deadline is 30/09/11. This year there will also be glittering prizes to be won…


Successful entrants will have a rare chance to see their films on a big screen and to invite their friends and families along as well. On a national scale there will be movies from the 2011 winning entries in the annual First Light Movies contest together with a selection of this year’s winners from the National Film and Television School. Come along and sample the very best of tomorrow’s film makers.

Duo’s programmes include a kaleidoscopic and exhilarating mix of popular classics and accessible contemporary music played on two marimbas, vibraphone and a huge array of percussion. Owen and Oliver’s wonderful rapport, both with each other and with their audience, along with their extraordinary versatility and virtuosity, adds up to a visual and artistic feast that is utterly irresistible. Their programme will include some show-stopping arrangements of works by Bach, Chopin and Dave Brubeck, alongside Minoru Miki’s dazzlingly virtuosic Marimba Spiritual.

Growing up in a house filled with music, from the folk, calypso and opera enjoyed by her Jamaican-born mother to the trad, swing and be-bop from her jazz-obsessed father, vocalist Louise Parker was born to create the sort of soulful sound that has


earned her a great reputation in the jazz world. A big hit on the festival circuit and a regular on Radio 2’s Best of Jazz, Louise Parker is a powerful performer and a skilful interpreter of swing, blues and gospel classics.

CHARLES DICKENS’ ,HARD TIMES, ADAPTED BY STEPHEN JEFFREYS Following CREATIVE COW’s energetic and sharp production of Travels with My Aunt,the theatre company returns with another scintillating adaptation of a classic novel. Stephen Jeffreys’ entertaining and wonderfully inventive adaptation of Charles Dickens’ evocative saga, is set in the north of England at the height of the Industrial Revolution. Four actors will represent the resilient residents of smoke filled Coketown and show how “The Creative Cow performers are simply stunning... directed with incisive attention...don’t miss this superb production.” Blackmore Vale .
