Oakton Community College (www.oakton.edu) opened its Skokie campus in 1995 and each year provides thousands of community residents with opportunities for lifelong learning through associate degree and certificate programs; continuing education classes; business training; and a wide range of cultural events. The Skokie campus is home to a robust Emeritus Program, “for the student who wasn’t born yesterday,” and also provides access to GED preparation and testing and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs offered at high schools and other satellite locations. The Art, Science and Technology Pavilion was opened in 2005 to expand Oakton’s ability to train students in engineering, electronic technology and industrial technology, robotics and CNC operation and programming. The campus also features an Early Childhood Education Center, with full and half-day programs for pre-school children, as well as a library, modern language labs, bookstore, cafeteria and multipurpose rooms available for rental for business meetings and community events.
