area of downtown Fort Myers both economically and socially.” Aulem, Dobson, and the local organization Wake Up Fort Myers, have joined forces to increase voter awareness among young adults, encouraging them to show up at the polls and change the injustices that they have been dealt. The majority of registered voters in the area are over 50 years of age, but there are just as many young people in the area who aren’t currently registered to vote. The theme of the October 4th Mixtape party was “Vendetta,” and attendees were encouraged to wear Guy Fawkes masks made popular by the graphic novel turned motion picture, V For Vendetta. Dobson likened the evening to the anonymous protesters on Wall Street, albeit in a much smaller context. This act is not an open protest, but rather a community of young adults banding together to show the powers-that-be that they are paying attention and that they want change. Mixtape is clearly gaining ground as one of the hottest nights
in the region. This event will only become more popular as more local and guest DJs from around Florida and the nation travel here to peddle their bass wares across Indigo’s smoky dance floor. The young people of SWFL are mobilizing to help their friends enjoy Mixtape on a regular basis. They are realizing that they have the power to change the laws restricting this area’s nightlife. Perhaps dubstep is just a passing fad in the ever changing sea of music, but if not, it may carry the same weight outside of the nightclub that different musical revolutions carried outside of places like Woodstock and the Haight-Ashbury. If the power of dubstep can bring together a new wave of young voters that change local laws in November, then who knows what it has the ability to do next!

innovative computer mixing software, Dobson found that pursuing his passion was now more affordable and accessible than ever. He learned to mix as a DJ for local companies such as Sean Corey Entertainment before branching out on his own. Coming from more of a music production background helped Dobson understand not only how to mix tracks together, but how and why different equipment created different effects. It is this past experience which has enabled him to transition so smoothly into a role of leadership at Mixtape: The Party. Mixtape has played host to many up-and-coming and already popular electronic music outfits such as Hot Pink Delorean, Alexandre, and FIGURE. Dobson hopes to host even more guest DJs in the future, while still maintaining a hometown vibe. He feels that the west coast of Florida is an open canvas for this genre of music, as compared to the long-present, more established rave scenes on Florida’s east coast. A police raid at a recent Mixtape party cracked down on attendees
ages 18-20, effectively blocking them from entrance. “Banning the younger generation from many establishments in the downtown Fort Myers area is hurting the city’s economy,” says Raimond Aulem, owner of Indigo Room. “These young people have the power to revitalize the
