Local Groups Support SWFL Art

Art is vital to our local community’s culture, so we’re lucky that Southwest Florida has several non-profit organizations that cater directly to

the arts. Whether it’s supporting artists, or helping underprivileged residents explore their creative talents, we’ve found four local organizations that inspire us – and others – to keep on creating. Each group primarily serves artists, the community and art educators; the “arts” are widely defined to include performing, music, and literary arts, as well as the more traditional artistic mediums such as painting.

Periodically, the United Arts Council of Collier County holds

workshops for artists teaching about the business side of the art world, social media, and more. They also help coordinate exhibits for artists and publish a comprehensive cultural calendar, both printed and online at www.CollierArts.com. Along with specialized services for the arts community, the Council provides arts education for at-risk students who otherwise might not have access to the arts. Various programs are offered for teachers, students, and the public, including after school programs such as Tools 4 Schools, Stars in the Arts, art publications, outreach programs and grants. Every November, the United Arts Council of Collier County

The United Arts Council of Collier County: Its mission is to enrich

lives and strengthen the community through “the power of the arts,” and is a recognized resource for arts services and cultural information for art teachers and educators, artists, other arts organizations and the public. They define “the arts” in a broad way, considering anything that’s creative, including painting, sculpture, dance, music, film, and literary arts. It is designated by the State of Florida as the official Local Arts Agency for Collier County.

coordinates a countywide promotion of the arts, including more than 100 events during Celebrate the Arts Month. The two big events and fundraisers are a kick-off party for the Arts Month, and will be next held on November 12, 2011, and the Stars in the Arts awards luncheon, scheduled for February 10, 2012. From residents, to visitors, artists and the general public, the hard work of many long-term volunteers has benefited numerous individuals, educators, and students. Currently, the United Arts Council is seeking volunteers to assist with fundraising events and the Recycle Center. For more info: www.CollierArts.com
