• With the addition of three new partners in 2011 the corporate and commercial department at Southampton-based Paris Smith now ranks as one of the largest dedicated teams of corporate solicitors on the south coast, and complements the firm’s strong commercial property and litigation expertise. The larger team (pictured) – with the recruitment of Michael Moore (corporate finance), Crispin Dick (commercial/contracts), Rachel Burnett (IT and IP) and Mike Pavitt (insolvency) – adds to the firm’s offering for a client base which operates in nearly all established business sectors. Partner Sean Davies (front) said: ”Our aim as a department is to continue to be a natural choice for business owners, generators and managers in the region who are seeking legal input on the operation, structure, growth or reorganisation of their businesses.”
• Accountant and business adviser Baker Tilly has announced a number of tax and corporate finance appointments across the south east which increase the firm’s service line and sector offering across the region. Mark Collins (above) has joined the Sussex office bringing his key employer consulting expertise to the core south east markets
as national head of Baker Tilly’s Employer Consulting Group (ECG), responsible for all employer consulting tax advice, but with a core regional focus. The Sussex office has also recruited Norbert Varga from PwC as manager within the ECG team as it continues to focus on expanding its specialist client services. Kirsty Sandwell has been appointed managing partner for corporate finance across the south east. An M&A and private equity specialist, she has been with the firm for 10 years, most recently in London, and specialises in mid-market transactions, disposals, acquisitions and fundraisings across a range of sectors. Angus Miller and Jerry Hibbs have also joined as associate directors, Andrew Lee as associate, and finally, Richard Stradling as VAT associate director in the south west, an area which includes Bournemouth.

• PwC has strengthened its south coast team of 300 staff with the appointment of partner Ian Wishart (right), as leader of the assurance practice in Southampton. Wishart has transferred from the London office where he has been a partner for 13 years, bringing a wealth of experience from a range of industries. He grew up in Bournemouth and joined PwC after graduating from the University of Southampton. Keith Evans (left), senior partner for the Southampton office, said: ”I am delighted that Ian is joining our south coast practice. His experience and leadership will help drive the team to provide an even better service for local companies.”
• Verisona Solicitors has reinforced its commercial property practice with the appointment of Chris Allnutt as director. Formerly a partner in Blake Lapthorn’s real estate team, Allnutt joins the team at the Lakeside office in Portsmouth. He brings a wealth of commercial property experience involving the disposal and acquisition of all forms of commercial premises, options, development agreements, landlord and tenant work (where he acts for both landlords and tenants in equal measure).
• CBRE has launched its new commercial property auctions team, recruiting some of the industry’s best known talent to kick start its strategic foray into the auction market. John Townsend, previously head of auctions at Cushman & Wakefield, has joined as executive director. Executive director Chris Mills has joined from Highcross Strategic Advisors. David Margolis and Martin Christopher also join from Cushman & Wakefield as senior directors, together with Sarah Butterworth as associate director.
• Southampton-based public relations consultancy Grayling has added to its team with the appointment of two new staff: associate director, Louise Gill (above left) and client executive Sarah Emerton (above right). Gill, previously based in Grayling’s Soho offices, joined Grayling in 2005. She has 12 years’ experience in public relations and gained experience of working on the implementation of business-to-business and consumer public relations campaigns before specialising in the property sector. Emerton has recently graduated with a PR degree from Bournemouth University.
