Robert Carew-Chaston, of Hutchings & Thomas Chartered Surveyors
Who are you and what do you do? I am Robert Carew-Chaston, a chartered surveyor, consultant at Hutchings & Thomas Chartered Surveyors. I have various property interests and help my wife manage the family property portfolio.
What was your very first car and what did you think of it? A Ford Escort. I didn’t like it at all and sold it the following day and made £100 profit!
What do you drive now and why? Where do we start! My wife and I love cars and always have a few more than we really need. My every day cars at the moment are a Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible and a Jeep Wrangler Extreme Unlimited (pictured top right).
What is your dream motor? One that flies! While I do like cars there is no experience that can compare, in my opinion to flying a helicopter, it is just amazing.
Would you ever go electric? Why? Yes I would but the ‘petrol head’ in me has always loved the big engine cars which have character, something that I don’t think an electric car could ever have, but in time who knows.
What does a car say about its owner? With most modern cars, not much in my opinion.
How important is it for you in your line of business to have the car that you have? I have always enjoyed having a sports car which
I do believe has been important for my line of business. However, I could turn up to a site meeting one day in my Jeep and the next in the Porsche or Lambo and then there is always the tractor!
What other cars do you have and have you owned? Ford Escort 1600 Sport (Rally Prepped), Vauxhall Cavalier SRI, Porsche 944, Porsche 911 Carrera, Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Convertible, Lamborghini Gallardo Manual, Gallardo E-GEAR, Nissan Navara Pick-Up, Mitsubishi Shogun Warrier (LWB), Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi L200 Pick-Up, Range Rover Vogue SE, Jeep Wrangler 4L Extreme, TVR 290 SE, Citreon DS3 1.6i Turbo, BMW 325, BMW 525, BMW 840 CI and of course a few ‘country seats’.
What’s your next car? My wife, Teresa, is half Italian and we both love our sports cars – with an Italian badge, obviously. We recently had a test drive in the new Lamborghini Aventador and while at the dealership liked the Gallardo LP560 Bicolore (limited edition) (pictured right) they had in there. That has now become our latest car and it is stunning. Hopefully we will have an Aventador next summer.
Favourite road to drive on? The M4 at 5am where, of course, I stick to the speed limit at all times!
