St David’s Foundation: – a great charity
G
ary Parker, of Parker & Co, accountants and business advisors, is taking time
out of his professional life to raise monies for St David’s Foundation Hospice Care. St David’s is such a deserving
charity providing hospice care for people, their families and carers facing a progressive life-threatening illness which is no longer curable. Just take a look at their website
www.stdavidsfoundation.co.uk to see the great work that they do. Gary got involved last year by
arranging the Kingsway Abseil. The keen climber and world expedition leader also and donated a ‘day out climbing and abseiling’ as an auction prize at charity’s the Annual St David’s Ball. The auction winners – mum, dad
and two daughters – were taken out in August this year to the Wintour’s Leap crags, near Chepstow for a day’s climbing. The family of four did some climbing and also some abseiling. “It was very enjoyable,” Gary said. Gary will be putting the same
prize up for auction again this year at the St David’s Ball staged at Newport’s Celtic Manor Resort. This year St David’s Foundation
is Parker & Co’s nominated charity and as such the firm of accountants is trying to raise a total of £10,000 before March 31, 2012. “We’re hoping to achieve this by
sponsoring the ball this year and by me taking part in various physical challenges,” says Gary. “So far we have raised just over
£4,000, so still some way to go.” Gary and some of the Parker &
Co team completed the Three Peaks Challenge for St David’s in July and then in August Gary competed in the 6.2km Hellespont swim from Europe to Asia. “It was a tough fast swim but the jellyfish were the worst part!” Gary said. “I was happy to get to the other side!” Parker & Co still has sponsorship
to come in but Gary is now hoping to raise the most from his last fundraising event of this year. Gary is taking part in the Everest Marathon in early December. It is known as the highest marathon on earth and will be a tough call at around 5,000 metres above sea level. “I really enjoy taking part in these
events but it is so good to be doing them in the name of such a great charity.
“Anyway we are an adventurous
business so it fits in well with our attitude to business and indeed life.” Have a look at our website and
