Take three: Start-ups
Inspiralight
Having spent many years in medical product design and working as technical director for a Cardiff-based company, entrepreneur Mark Ebbutt, 53, from Ross-on-Wye, decided that he needed a change. With several new business ideas, he decided to branch out and develop one of them to become self-employed. He approached Centre for
Business for advice and drew up a business plan, which led him to found and develop Monmouth- based Inspiralight Ltd, designing and manufacturing unique and unusual large-scale decorative lamps for private and commercial use.
All of Inspiralight’s products
are original in design, composed from a combination of new and traditional materials and manufacturing methods, predominantly from UK sources. Now, with further support
from Centre for Business and the Welsh Government Start up programme, Mr Ebbutt plans to grow his business and eventually develop it on an international scale.

3 Mr Ebbutt said: “I knew that
I had the experience and skills to set up my own business, I just needed help to decide which of my ideas was the best to pursue, and the Centre for Business has provided support every step of the way. “Since founding the business,
the last few months have been a bit of a blur! I’ve identified a suitable office and workshop location from which to operate and convey the right image to my clients, recently launched the company’s website to open up the business to opportunities on the world wide web and started marketing some of my initial designs. “It’s still early days yet but
enquiries are starting to filter through and in the present climate it’s looking very promising. “I’m extremely proud of
what I’ve achieved so far and am already looking to build on the product portfolio with additional decorative options, functional and application ideas to take the business to the next level.”
