Tomato Contest Think you grow the best to-
matoes around? Enter them in the tomato contest at the Shep- herdstown Farmers Market August 14. Mayor Jim Auxer will be guest judge,and anyone can enter. Judging categories include the heaviest, biggest, smallest, ugliest, prettiest, best tasting, and most unusual tomatoes. The winners will re- ceive market bucks and other prizes. Judging will be at 11am; contestants are invited to bring their red, yellow, and green to- matoes for the contest.

a board member of the Histori- cal Society. His parents, Charles and Wilhelmina O’Connor were very supportive in his dream to become a published author. They are both deceased. The annual competition,
called the Charles and Wil- helmina O’Connor Author Competition, is open to any- one who resides in Jefferson County, West Virginia, or is a member in good standing of the Jefferson County Historical Society; who has written about primarily about Jefferson County history (fiction, non- fiction or children’s book); and has not previously published a book. Persons wishing to enter
the competition must submit a book idea of at least 100 pages. Materials will be judged on merit, grammar, writing style, subject and scholarship. Deci- sions of the committee will be final. The winner will be noti-
fied in early 2012 and will have one year to complete their manuscript for publication. The winner will receive a professionally published 5 ½ by 8 ½ book published by Infin- ity Publishing of West Consho- hocken, Pennsylvania, twenty- five printed books, 1000 busi- ness cards, 1000 book marks and 100 posters.
