Community Foundation Announces Youth and Education Grants
Twenty-six area groups re-
ceived grants from the East- ern West Virginia Community Foundation totaling $51,000 from its Youth Grants pro- gram. President of the Board of Directors, Stew Borger, said that the Youth Grants program just completed its 13th
anniver-
sary and that, as in each year past, the request for funding by far exceeded funds available. He also applauded the stead- fast work of so many charities supporting local youth. Fund- ing for grants is derived from several key funds in the Com- munity Foundation, two of which were created through bequests from Jane P. Snyder and Elizabeth Shade who re- stricted their bequest to the community foundation to cre- ate long-term, permanent en- dowment to help and support area children. Receiving grants in its most

ia Community Foundation, founded in 1995, provides fi- nancial stewardship for $16 million in endowment. It works with local contribtors to set up permanent funds that fulfill a donors’ charitable vi- sion. It distributes grants and scholarships each year working directly with local donors and community volunteers. Com- munity foundations number more than 700 across America and 30 in West Virginia.
