COTTAGE CLUB

antwerp, belgium EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST/AFRICA

Cottage Club in Antwerp is the realisation of a life-long dream. It has the perfect location on the River Schelde, and sits next to one of the biggest working ports in the world, the old port of Antwerp. The idea was to create a venue incorporating a restaurant and a club, which has good music, a friendly atmosphere and great food. Owner Patrick Lorriper said: “All summer clubs in Antwerp have been built with sand, there’s no comfort, they serve simple food, and they attract lots of very young people. I wanted to create something for people of 30-plus.” Patrick is also the owner of LorCo, the company that completed the installation at Cottage Club, and has worked as a sound engineer for more than 20 years. He reached an ideal stage in his career and decided to combine his talents to devise an exclusive concept for a new entertainment venue. LorCo designed all aspects of the audio and lighting design, as well as the decorative aesthetics. The choice of audio equipment was a very easy decision for Patrick, as he explained: “We’ve worked with dBTechnologies for some years and we are very happy with this brand. I’ve never had a better partner than dBTechnologies.

They are the only speakers of extremely good quality that are also flexible in use, lightweight, have a nice design, and are reliable. They are just perfect, and of course affordable. The support we get from Joris [Vervecken] and the mother company is extremely professional.” Sales Manager of dBTechnologies BeNeLux, Joris Vervecken was in charge of supplying the equipment for Cottage Club. The main system comprises eight DVX D8 active 2-way speakers and four DVA S10 subwoofers. On the central stage where live music acts perform, LorCo fitted four DVX DM12 active bi-amped stage monitors, and four DVX DM15 low-profile stage monitors. Cottage Club has been constructed using a tent to form the main structure, which sits on top of a platform. Patrick went for this option, mainly because Cottage Club was not intended to be a permanent fixture. It has been erected for just three months over the summer period. The tent structure posed some difficulties when placing speakers but Patrick knew how to overcome the problem. The solution was to build and install a circular pipe construction above the stage and mount the D8’s on the frame. Joris explained his thoughts on why dBTechnologies was the ideal choice for this installation. He said: “dBTechnologies was an easy choice. We have speakers for very small applications up to systems for very large applications. All our products are digital and active
