PALME ASIA SINGAPORE

Palme Asia Singapore took place on 13-15 July in a new location at Marina Bay Sands. The show returned after a year off (during which organisers IIR launched Palme Vietnam), and this theme will continue, seeing Palme Asia run as a biannual show and Palme Vietnam annually. The Marina Bay Sands complex officially opened last year, and as a new venue it certainly has a lot to offer: brand new facilities, ample exhibition space, a whole host of meeting and conferences rooms, and plenty of eateries for any companies which require a working lunch. Something it does lack, however, is a suitable space for live audio demonstrations. There were just two speakers manufacturers, which opted for live demo slots, KV2 and EAW. And while the demos were by no means a bad idea, and I’m sure both manufacturers considered the surroundings when setting up the equipment, the

fact that only two companies signed up does raise some concerns. The room was large and empty of any furnishings, meaning there was a lot of re- flection to contend with. Although it can’t be argued this added another dimension to the show, perhaps next time a more realistic environment could be used. Exhibitor-wise the show floor seemed well equipped, with all the major distributors in Singapore making an appearance. There were some new exhibitors to Palme Asia, those to note were: Quad - distributor of Midas, Klark Teknik, Clair Brothers, and ACTC trussing - and TrekTech AV which recently took on the distribution of Elation lighting products. Also new to Palme Asia was Klotz cables. The company usually exhibits at Broad- cast Asia, but this year Business Manager APAC, Kamal Mahtani, opted for Palme instead. He said: “I’m really glad I decided to exhibit, we’re the only cable company
