The Chambers - the new name for the old Great Harwood Town Hall, which is now a beautifully restored Grade II list building offering 15 contemporary business suites, is filling up fast. As well as being the new home for The Local Herald, we have a diverse range of businesses old and new, now in residence. With 24/7 security access for tenants, new lift, modern kitchen/ dining area & WC facilities. The suites themselves are tastefully decorated with original features being retained, and have excellent parking facilities within 2 minutes walking distance; offering great value for money from £39 per week (inclusive). If you are outgrowing your present office or even your spare bedroom at home, The Chambers is a great place from which to run your business, with on site business support and management provided by Hyndburn Enterprise Trust, it makes perfect sense to locate your business here. HYWEL & JAMIE HIT HARWOOD HARD
Tuesday 9th August 2011 Rock FM descends on Great Harwood in the form of Hywel and Jamie’s Road- show and their caravan of love, seen here in Great Harwood Town Centre. The Dynamic duo spent Tuesday in the Town Hall Square as part of their tour
including Oswaldtwistle Mills on
Wednesday, Moor Park in Preston on Thursday, and The North Pier in Blackpool on Friday. The Crazy Couple entertained the people of Great Harwood signing autographs and welcoming visitors to the caravan. Hywel had a lot of trouble pronouncing the name Harwood for some reason so we were looking forward to his efforts pronouncing Oswaldtwistle the day after. They did a great job promoting the town as they went walkabouts visiting local shops and businesses. Jamie was particularly impressed with the new sweet shop (The Sweetie Den) in the town centre giving it a nice plug on the radio. The lads then came to the Local Herald offices in the Town Hall Buildings and are pictured below with some of our staff, Simon, Debi, and Gary. Hewel was asking us about the latest big story to hit the Herald but the main message that came across was that Gary was going on holiday. Egypt in fact. The two boys later featured our little magazine in their evening quiz giving the Local Herald quite a bit of publicity, and we were very surprised at the number of phone calls we received from friends, readers and advertisers saying they had heard us mentioned on Rock FM Radio. Thanks lads.
Councillor Colette McCormack. Mayor of Hyndburn. It has been a quiet few weeks for me because of the summer holidays which has given me the chance to concentrate on the Mayor’s charities. As I mentioned in an earlier edition I have chosen Help for Heroes, Hyndburn Macmillan Cancer Support and Hyndburn Crossroads Care as my three main charities for this year. All three are charities very close to mine and my family’s hearts and I am really proud to be able to raise money for them this year. One event I am very excited about is the annual Macmillan ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ which takes place on Friday 30th September. This is the 21st year of the event and to mark the occasion Macmillan have approached me to try and break the record for the number of coffee mornings attended in a day. Last year the Town Mayor of Knutsford attended 16. We are going to attempt to attend at least 21. If you are planning a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan please register it at
www.macmillan.org.uk/ coffee or call 0845 602 1246 and I will try my best to attend. Another new event we have set up this year is the Mayor of Hyndburn’s Awards. In partnership with Hyndburn Community Network these awards celebrate the outstanding work done by local volunteers, fundraisers and community groups. For more information and nomination forms please contact my office. The event will be held on Monday 17th October at Accrington Town Hall. So far Oswaldtwistle Mills, Accrington Stanley F C and North Lancs Training Group have already offered their support to the event. In my role as a Councillor I am the Over 50’s champion for Hyndburn Borough Council. I am very keen to incorporate this into my role as Mayor this year. If you are a member of a senior citizens organisation or group and would like me to visit you I would be delighted to do so. Contact my office to arrange suitable dates. On the 1st July 2011 I attending two services to commemorate the Battle of the Somme where hundreds of the Accrington Pals lost their lives. It’s a long way off, and I will not be Mayor when it comes around but my office is working with local groups to organise a series of events to commemorate the Accrington Pals and the 100th anniversary of the Somme in 2014. If you have any ideas for events, or you are thinking of holding an event yourself please contact my office to discuss it. For more information about upcoming events, to invite me to an event you are holding or to put your name down for the Mayor’s Ball please contact my office on 01254 380285 or
themayoraloffice@hyndburnbc.gov.uk Colette.
