H

ouston’s Global Earthdance 2011 will be held Saturday, on Septem- ber 24 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Gauranga Hall, located at 1320 West 34th St., in the Hare Krishna Temple complex. It will feature a globally synchronized Prayer for Peace which will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Simulta- neously, all over the world—in over 500 locations in 80 countries—people will connect in a powerful moment of coherent intention to generate healing vibrations all over the planet. The program—sponsored by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Ecstatic Dance of Houston, Metlife , Indigo Sun Magazine and Natural Awakenings Magazine— also includes ecstatic dance; live music by spiritual rock artist, Tyagaraja; mantra kirtan by Jiv Jago; a vegan dinner; green liv- ing , yoga demos; traditional Indian bharat natyam dance; fire spinning; art booths and more. This year’s focus, in line with the United Nations’ 2011 theme—International Year of the Forests—will be “Celebrating Forests” and protecting them for generations to come. Each local Earthdance supports a local charity which addresses peace, sustainability or social justice. Therefore, fifty percent of the profit from this year’s gathering will go to the Food for Life, a vegetarian Kids Meals-on-Wheels program. A suggested donation of $10 includes admission to all

events and the vegan dinner. (Metlife is helping underwrite part of the costs.) For more information or sponsorship oppor- tunities, please contact Shobha shoba_duruvan@yahoo.com or Dr. Medley 713-979-7698 or visit www.iskconhouston.org or www.earthdance.org. See ad page 28.
