theawakeningcommunity Tim Janak Sr. of Paths in Healing

by Barbara Lynn Silberg

Tim Janak Sr.’s Paths in Healing Body- works is a tranquil, sacred space, dotted with Native American art. A sound/ vibration table sits at its heart, while a surround music system fills the room with Native American flutes, drums, songs, didgeridoos, and other primordial sounds.

Barbara: How would you describe yourself? Tim: As a man who loves nature, animals, exercising out- doors, and the simple forms of healing arts. Being part Comanche, I attend sweat lodges, drumming and other sacred ceremonies.

Barbara: How would you describe your business? Tim: I do various forms of bodywork—Sports Massage, Neu- romuscular Massage, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Thera- py, and Energy Work. All sessions are unique and incorporate the use of the Sound/Vibration table. While receiving body- work, the client is cocooned in sound and vibration.

Barbara: Whom do you help? Tim: If they find their way into my door, I’m going to find a way to help them. I’ve been instrumental in helping athletes, people of all walks of life—in all stages of life—children and animals.

Barbara: How did you get started? Tim: As a boy, I’d often find wounded animals and birds. I would bring them home and nurse them back to health. My mother was a nurse. She taught me how to care for the injured and how to deal with those too sick to survive. Deal- ing with animals in pain, I learned the importance of touch— how anger would affect my touch and could cause unintentional pain, how a compassionate touch could sooth and heal. My mother always thought I’d be a doctor. And I did study Pre-Med for 2 years. But my dad became ill and I dropped out to work. I returned to college, got a degree in Mechanical Technology and went to work for an engineering company. I worked doing mechanical technology for 18 years, playing music on the side. Running became my stress reliever. But in 1987, while running, I hurt my back. I struggled for 2 years, in pain 80% of the day. After going to various doctors and popping muscle relaxers, I ended at a chiropractor who adjusted me and sent me to his massage therapist. In three visits, I was 50% free of pain. It took me 8 months, to re-balance and run again. I

became fascinated with massage and enrolled in massage school.

Barbara: Who were your strongest influences? Tim: There have been many: my Dad, my Mom, numer- ous teachers and mentors. Tim Jr. is one of my strongest influences. He’s an old soul—like a gateway to the beyond.

Barbara: What are your short- and long-term busi- ness goals? Tim: Short-term, I just launched a Sports Massage Certification Program which has drawn a large interest. Soon, I intend to have other Certification Programs pertaining to Bodywork. Long-term, I see Paths in Healing becoming a Wellness Center in the middle of nature.

Barbara: What are your personal goals? Tim: Short-term, I’d like to continue to travel and teach—one day, on reservations. Long-term, get a motorcycle and travel the west to see all the National Wonders and the homes of my ancestors. I want to keep working till I pass on.

Barbara: What is your favorite quote? Tim: “Every morning when you wake up, stand, face the sun, square your shoulders and put one foot in front of the other. No matter how hard life gets, keep going.” ~ Native American saying.

Barbara: What would people be surprised to learn about you? Tim: I have a little kid side to me. I still ride bikes and attempt to roller skate, jump rope and play in the mud.

Barbara: How would you sum up your philosophy? Tim: We are all connected and my actions affect all others, nature, the world, the universe. I strive to live in harmony with all of nature, mankind, and the laws of the universe.
