 Leading figures from Australia’s performing arts industry have put their heads and hearts together to create an event unlike anything the country has seen before, with a new Sydney-based performance project called Peace Angels: Walking Light (www.peaceangels.com.au).


This is far beyond a street performance. The purpose of the performance is to raise awareness that there are angels among us every day. In fact, to prepare for their angel roles, the performers have tried to embody angelic behaviour and have been practising with energy healing and anchoring energy to increase the vibration of peace in Sydney.


On Sunday, 25th September, angels will appear throughout


Sydney’s CBD in malls, restaurants, among street vendors and on buses. They will then move through city, joining with other angels until they converge at Sydney’s Hyde Park, home of the ANZAC memorial and also a central energy point of Sydney. Once arriving at Hyde Park, they’ll continue to anchor peace and raise awareness of the angels among us through their performance art of choreographed movements, singing and lighting effects to help them appear both transcendent and luminous.


The performance/meditation was conceived by NIDA acting


teacher and former Artistic Director of the Australian Theatre for Young People, Antoinette Sampson. She has been joined by Music Director and composer Max Lambert, who was involved with the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the musical The Boy From Oz, and Victoria Wildie, former General Manager of Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre.


“We’ve just got so many people involved – incredible artists and greatly skilled people”, says Sampson, “a video artist, a very famous Australian musical director, choreographers, singing teachers and of


course 100 angels – just amazing people.” The experiential art event, which will take place from 6.45pm, will


not only feature the Peace Angels, but will also showcase Lambert’s


music and a dramatic lighting display. “The performers will be dressed as angels and they’ll be lit; so they’ll look


luminous – it’s a night time project”, says Sampson. The performance is more than simply a show and dance routine


for Sampson and her angels. Central to the overall theme of the show is meditation and the spreading of peace and love throughout the city. According to Sampson, it is a new kind of entertainment experience never before seen in Sydney.


“There’s a process we’re using. It’s a different kind of process


and it’s part of what I’m interested in, which is transformational entertainment”, says Sampson. “We do meditation and we talk about how to unblock things in ourselves which stop us being able to feel peace and to love. We hope to transform both those participating in the art, those watching and all of Sydney.”


This event has been a long time coming for Sampson, who first


conceived the idea of the peace angels over 13 years ago, during a serious illness.


“I was very sick with pneumonia, and I was lying in bed and I


woke up from a dream. I could see black and white photographs”, says Sampson. “And in the dream people were just going around living their normal lives, but on trains, walking down the street, on buses, there were angels next to them.”


You might have seen her angels around Sydney previously, but


this performance will be something ‘out of the box’ with the amazing lighting effects and music – and such a large group of angels in the one place.


The entire performance will take approximately an hour and a half. This free performance event is being produced with support from Shanti Mission, a multi-faith spiritual community dedicated to promoting peace.
