AMY LAWSON, 28
Head of communications, Channel 4 News Within 18 months of joining ITN as press and PR manager in 2009, Amy was promoted to head of communications, where she has con- tinued to impress. While managing external communications around Channel 4 News, she has overseen the launch of a new website and a new on-screen line-up, and publicly defended high-profile and controversial investigations into the Catholic Church, Zac Goldsmith’s election expenses and allegations of war crimes in Sri Lanka. of criticism, and for doing so alongside her daily push to promote its stories, brand and on-screen team. Jon Snow attests to her tenac- ity: “Amy is a total one-off – creative, proactive, effective and dynamic. And she knows what I’m up to before I do.”
RACHEL TATE, 26
Communications assistant, UKTV A former stand-up, Rachel volunteered to work on UKTV’s comedy channels and quickly found her feet as a natural and influential comedy publicist. She has most impressed Tamsyn Zietsman,
head of publicity at UKTV, by installing a system to evaluate traditional and social
media coverage for UKTV, which Zietsman describes as “industry leading”. Working with Precise, Rachel developed and embedded a method of evaluation illustrating results by detailed demographic and success of key messages, all benchmarked against prior and competitor campaigns. She has also been a key part of the Broadcast-
ing Press Guild Awards, which UKTV sponsors. “Rachel has initiative and understands the strategic brief of underlining the event as a much-coveted ceremony, voted in the most democratic of processes by member journalists – and the lunch awards event itself as a sought- after invitation,” says BPG awards secretary Kate Bulkley. “She’s good and will go far.”
