Craft & Post

Craft & Post ROBIN LEWIS, 27

Edit assistant, BBC Natural History Unit Robin started out as a runner for Films@59 but his potential was spotted while working for the BBC for one week as an edit assistant in 2008. He was swiftly recruited to NHU pro- duction South Pacific. He was then selected to work on the

NHU’s groundbreaking Africa. Mike Gunton, executive producer and crea- tive director at BBC NHU, says: “His job title underplays the role Robin has gone on to play on the series. He is solely responsible for all media coming back from the field but he has also undertaken the task of research- ing the new technologies that allow the programme to create ground- breaking images, filming Africa in a style never seen before.” Elsewhere, Robin has undertaken

edits for a wide range of projects, from music videos to motion graphics for Springwatch, and once Africa is com- pleted, he plans to launch into the freelance world as a craft editor.

promoted to offline editor. She went on to work a 10-month contract, cutting back-to-back 45-minute pro- grammes on a six-day rolling edit schedule. She has now been given directorial responsibilities, working both autonomously and alongside edit producers. Production executive Mark Bos says

Charlotte has demonstrated “a matu- rity beyond her years”, consistently delivering well-structured, beautifully paced and tightly edited shows. He adds: “She is experienced in

producing work of consistently high standards in a high-pressure environ- ment, meeting tight deadlines and making important contributions to the programmes she has worked on.”

DOMINIK JAMES, 25

Staff editor, Reef Television After joining Reef in 2008 as an edit assistant, Dominik started cutting full UK broadcast programmes within a year. In his current position as staff editor, he has worked on a variety of shows including The Tech Show for Discovery Science and popular BBC daytime series Dealers and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is. Dominik was integral to Reef ’s development in filming and editing in HD by upgrading suite software and

hardware using methods that have helped the company progress into HD at a low cost but with high productivity. “Technically, he’s brilliant,” says

executive producer Alex Dundas, who worked with Dominik on Dealers. “Whether it’s edit suites or laptops, he can fix any problem that comes his way.”

ALEX REDFERN, 28

Project Solution Architect, EVS Alex has designed, installed and supported systems for world broad- casters at Fifa World Cup events, the Beijing Olympic Games and for Sky’s Harlequin 1 facility in West London, as well as various projects at BSkyB, BBC and ITV. “Alex’s understanding of the indus-

try is world class,” says Bevan Gibson, technical launch director for BSkyB at Sky News Arabia. “His positive atti- tude, combined with an appreciation of end-user requirements across the systems he provides, means he is a tremendous asset to any project or event in which he is involved.” Alex has particularly impressed

his bosses with his ability to draw on experience across the industry to suggest solutions that might not be immediately obvious to operators concentrating on one discipline.
