Its producers, the IPI and the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA), which stars in the show, disagree, and feel that it helps the authority with its street rep. I have always said baloney. Philly reporter) had proposed a five-point plan for mak- ing the PPA more accountable and customer-friendly. Since the PPAhas not responded to her, I’m putting them out there again, even if I don’t agree with them all. Here are Ronnie’s Rules: 1. Cancel the contract the PPAhas with A&E to pro-
duce “ParkingWars.” (To me, that’s a side issue.) 2. Triple the number of customer-service reps, cur-
rently four. Hire as many as are needed. 3. Start evening hours for hearings. Daily hours from
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. aren’t good enough. Give the accused citizen the option of weekday evening hours and all-day Saturday hours. 4. Open a hotline so that blatantly bad tickets can be
dismissed over the phone. 5. Publish phone numbers and email addresses of
PPAboard members so citizens can contact them directly with problems and complaints. The PPA’s answer thus far has been the sound of
crickets… These seem like commonsense suggestions (particularly
the first one, although Bykofsky disagrees). On that, I agree with Ronnie and disagree with Stu. Putting the authority up as a paragon of parking virtue on “Parking Wars” is certainly sending the wrong message particularly if the PPA is not per- ceived as handling day-to-day operations well. The PPA needs to focus like a laser beam on their customer
service, training and getting their public relations house in order. Preparing for their close-up should come later.
The “Ethics” of Passing Along Your P-and-D ticket… (Posted July 19) About a month ago, I started a discussion on PT’s Dis-
cussion Group on LinkedIn. I wanted to find out what people thought about giving your parking ticket – when it still had time on it – to someone as you left a P-and-D lot. Most of the comments were from the UK – basically dis-
cussing the enforcement issues and taking gentle sides. You should go to the discussion and read them. Most are very thoughtful. Of course, the two extreme opposite ends of the discussion would be from Yanks who both happen to be friends of mine.
