PSYCHIC BLOOD
This US trio, from Holyoke, Massachusetts, are quite happy to handle melody, as long as they get to bludgeon it into submission! Their recent The Strain 7-inch sees multiple guitars crashing through plate glass. There’s some nominal shouting and it’s shot through with a vein of formerly pretty notes but they drive it into something far more exhilarating and chaotic. They released a demo tape, Leaves, before the current single and they’re planning their first full-length release to come later in the year. Give their songs a listen here:

BRAIN DRAIN
Adam McFilin, who is currently based in Sydney Australia, is a one man loop fest. Occasionally collaborating with another musician, Ben Doran, Brain Drain is the result. Gentle layers of guitar are dripped along repetitive motifs. From this cycle of simplicity, he improvises tastefully building a real sense of anticipation, dread or delight. His most recent release, Wahine Division, is the perfect example of this lullaby mantra: a consistent, brooding and elegant journey to a climax.
