The spirit of this Vintage V6 competition is to choose bands that we feel deserve to win a cool new Vintage guitar on their own individual merits. They don’t necessarily have to be the best musicians around, instead our bands just have to demonstrate a special quality that makes them unique. Northeast band Depth Charge Ethel is just such a band. This self-professed indie rock trio write their own material and we were struck by their original track Writer’s Block, whose shambling bass line and dry laconic vocal reminds us of The Fall during their early years. Shrugging off pressure to conform, Depth Charge Ethel insist that they are determined to plough their own distinctive musical furrow.
“Despite the amount of venues out there only asking
for covers bands, we still keep believing in ourselves,” the band insists, “ We would really benefi t from winning a Vintage V52 as not only would it bring a completely new sound to our set up, it would also allow us to experiment.” We like the cut of yer jib, Depth Charge Ethel, so enjoy
a new Vintage V6 guitar on us, courtesy of John Hornby Skewes Ltd.
