Executive Director's Message

ovin’ Spoonful had it right in the song “Summer in the City;” it has indeed been a hot time in the city this year. Amazingly, several months ago we were

talking about Snowmageddon only to be followed by one of the hottest and driest summers I’ve seen in a long time. I hope this fall will bring us some relief and we can look forward to a milder winter than we had last year. I am tremendously excited to write this article on one

of the bigger projects we’ve been working on during our hot summer – the MAJ website. Tis project started in September of last year when then

President, Kevin I. Goldberg, created an ad hoc committee to evaluate the website and learn how it could bring more value to members. Coincidentally, the company that hosts our website, TrialSmith, was working on developing a new platform that would change the inner workings of the site. It seemed like the planets were aligning and it was a perfect time to begin our work. However, considering the precarious economic trends and several programming issues, investing in the website had to take a backseat. Tis gave the committee and staff time to think about the services and uses of the website and to develop a deeper understanding of what to change and what products to integrate in the new system. Luckily, through our strong membership and continued

support of sponsors and advertisers, the Association has maintained a stable financial position and those projects that were put on the back burner were once again brought to the forefront. Not that we were looking to spend money. Te website platform was changing and we too had to follow suit. Enough with the boring background – allow me to

explain the new features and how it can bring value to you, your firm, and your clients. After all, joining an association and not taking advantage of their benefits is like buying a sports car and not driving it. You’ve got to take the car out and run it through its paces, right?

An Old Friend, A New Look If you haven’t had a chance to go to the website, you need

to do it today. Go to www.marylandassociationforjustice. com. Te front page is not only visually appealing, but is functionally divided so that members can get what they need easily.

Te first thing you will see is the beautiful picture of

Maryland’s State Capital. Take a moment to examine the columns on the left of the picture. You will see the inscription of “Equal Justice Under Law” carved on the two pillars. What a nice way to set the tone and introduce everyone to our mission of “Justice.” However, this is only a small clue of what else is included on the website. As a member, your focus should be on two places; the

navy bar up at the top of the page and the two boxes at the bottom of the page named “Members” and “CLE Center.” Here is all the information and links our members access most.

When you first land on the site, immediately click the

“Login” button on the top navy bar. Tis will prompt you to “Please Log in to MAJ.” Simply enter your e-mail address in the “Username” box and enter your password in the “Password” box. New to the MAJ website? Click “If you do not know your password, click here.” Within minutes, you will be sent an e-mail prompting you to follow a link and change/create your password. Once your password has been set, you’re ready to go!
