Documentary filmmaker Sudheer Gupta researched and produced ‘Black River Business,’ a film comparing the polluting Yamuna river in Delhi with the cleaning-up of the rivers Tyne, Tees and Wear in the UK.


Professor Stefan Helmreich Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA Van Mildert College


Stefan Helmreich pursued work spinning off from his latest book, Alien Ocean: Anthropological Voyages in Microbial Seas. The interdisciplinary environment of the IAS prompted some more theoretical reflections on the question of how life is viewed from different environmental perspectives – in space, beneath the sea, in biology – leading to an article for Critical Inquiryand an Insightsessay.


Dr Robin Hendry Durham University


Robin Hendry researches the history and philosophy of chemistry. He finished his contributions to a forthcoming reference work on The Handbook of the Philosophy of Chemistry, as well as developing several research papers and presentations about the chemistry of water.


Dr Paul Langley Northumbria University, UK


Paul Langley used the IAS Water theme to think more abstractly about the problem of ‘liquidity’ in financial markets. His two journal articles developed during his Fellowship applied this innovative new thinking to the sub-prime mortgage crisis.
