is Not Always About the Food by Betty Murray, CN, HHC, RYT

more accurate such as “I may have any food I want” or “that looks luxurious.”

• Take a small portion of the food you had previous judgments about

• Take a moment to really enjoy the experience of the food – smell it, notice the way the fork or spoon goes through the food.

• Take a bite and fully savor its flavor and complexity.

• Slowly eat this portion without distraction and with gratitude for the earth for providing the ingredients, the cook who prepared it and for you who is getting the rewards for nourishing your body, mind and spirit.

• Recognize how you feel about what you ate – are you smiling inside? Do you feel nourished? Are satisfied?

What we often find is when we eat with gratitude and without morality, we are simply more in tune with our bodies, the sensations of eating and the enjoyment of food which, in turn, allows us to digest and assimilate the nutrients more effectively. We enjoy the food and also improve our body’s ability to digest and extract the

nutrients from the food.

Nourishment is far more than the sum components of the food you consumed. It is about the experience of eating, the removal of judgment and dieting. It is about finding your own way of eating right now and learning how to tune into the process of nourishment and gratitude on all levels. Navigating to an intuitive eating model can be scary, especially if we have very created very structured eating rules in the past. You can release the grip food has over you and create a more loving and flowing relationship with food and body image. During this summer season, it’s the perfect time to revamp our relationship with food.
