The stories below provide a glimpse into life and activities at some of the Good Samaritan Society’s centers and at the organization’s National Campus in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Washington visit The Good Samaritan Society’s top


executive and several members of the organization’s Board of Directors met recently with officials in Washington, D.C., to discuss long-term care funding and regulations, and to promote initiatives important to the Society.

Andrea DeGroot- Nesdahl, a Society board member; and David J. Horazdovsky, president and chief executive officer of the Good Samaritan Society. They met with members of Congress, officials from the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Senate Committee on Aging and the Senate Finance Committee.


Among the topics discussed were Medicaid cuts, plans to restructure Medicaid funding into block grants, the role of technology in cutting healthcare costs, and Medicare statutes and savings.


New construction Plans are on track to open a new


assisted living center at the Good Samaritan Society – Prairie Creek campus in Sioux Falls, S.D. Tours of the center took place in May, and a grand opening is scheduled for July. The center, located on the south side of the Prairie Creek campus, will include 24 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom apartments with four levels of care.


In addition to the apartments, the center includes several community spaces such as a wellness area, chapel, general store and beauty shop. The Prairie Creek campus already offers twinhomes and apartments for seniors.


Lifestyle challenge In Iowa, staff members at Good


Samaritan Society – Algona are teaming up to adopt healthier lifestyles. Sixty-two staff members on seven teams participated in activities and weight-loss programs through the Live Healthy Iowa 100-Day Wellness Challenge.


The wellness program, founded by the Iowa Sports Foundation, encourages team-based physical activity, nutrition and weight -loss programs that lead to a healthier way of living.


Construction on a new assisted living center is almost done at the Prairie Creek campus.
