Q: What are some of the goals for the hospital? A: Training doctors in missionary medicine remains one of the biggest priorities. Karanda Mission Hospital is partnering with several U.S. and Canadian organizations to recruit more trained doctors. With more doctors comes the need for more housing and to update and expand the hospital and primary school, which are other top goals for the hospital.

Q: What are some of the rewards of working for Karanda Mission Hospital? A: The Lord has shown the hospital mercy and grace. And because of this, the hospital has had the ability to provide for the welfare of others over and over again. We see miracles every day at Karanda.

the Orphan Grain Train to send the hospital Bangladesh, Asia

a truckload worth of supplies, layettes, clothes, quilts and medical equipment donated from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Good Samaritan Society centers.

When other needs arise, the Good Samaritan Society does what it can to respond to those as well. After a massive earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, staff members at the Society’s National Campus crafted more than 140 comfort dolls and sent them to Haitian children. Money also was raised at the Annual Meeting that year for a special Project Outreach mission in Haiti.

In addition to supplying needed items and funds, the Society provides able bodies. Groups of Good Samaritan Society staff members and friends have gone on mission trips to Bogotá, Colombia, for the past five years to serve at a senior center and soup kitchen. The Rev. Wilcox says there are possible trips planned to Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in 2013.
