for Celtic Manor The Celtic Manor Resort has been named Sport Venue of the Year at the Sport Industry Awards 2011.The award caps a fantastic year for the five-star Resort, which was hailed as hosting the ‘greatest ever’ Ryder Cup last October.


The Sport Industry Awards are Europe’s largest commercial sports awards and Celtic Manor won the award after a judging process involving more than 60 key industry figures and 50 hours of intensive scrutiny. The resort was also shortlisted for ‘Best Use of PR in a Sport Campaign’. Celtic Manor’s marketing and commercial director, Gareth Rees Jones, and PR manager, Paul Williams, were on hand to collect the award, which was presented by Olympic Gold Medallist James Cracknell and TV presenter Charlotte Jackson. The award recognises the venue that offered the most flexible, creative and meticulous approach to hosting events and serving the needs of its visitors in 2010.


“The whole team at Celtic Manor is delighted to have won this prestigious award,” said Gareth. “We’ve had a very memorable year with The 2010 Ryder Cup proving a successful climax to more than a decade of hard work from everyone involved in the resort.”

Kellaway puts project in the fast lane


Kellaway Building Supplies has announced its continued sponsorship of the Bloodhound SSC Project that aims to create a land speed record car capable of achieving over 1,000mph.


The firm has been SME sponsors of the pioneering supersonic car project since 2010, but it’s not just the record-breaking headlines of the Bristol-based project that interest the award-winning merchant.


Chris Parker, Kellaway’s sales development and marketing manager, said: “We are keen to invest in the engineers of the future and Bloodhound is committed to an exciting education programme for schools and colleges that brings science and engineering to life.” With a predicted shortage of scientists, engineers and mathematicians in the UK,


one of the key aims of Bloodhound is to inspire young people to choose to study science, technology, engineering and maths subjects at school and university. “Bloodhound’s reputation for innovation and creativity fits neatly with our wider business objectives


where we are continually looking at new technology to improve our own construction and building products,” added Mr Parker. The supersonic car will be constructed and tested in the UK over the next 12 months, with the land speed record being attempted at the Hakskeen Pan in South Africa during 2012.


Grapevine on the up... and under!


Mobile Telecoms company Grapevine made sure its chosen charities had a great day out recently at The Rec, home of Bath RFC.


To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Grapevine is aiming to raise £20,000 to be split between four charities, two each chosen by the firm’s offices in Poole and Bath.


And to round off the rugby season, the firm opened its corporate hospitality facilities at The Rec for use by patients, carers, staff and volunteers from the four charities – Dorset


Wildlife Trust and the Youth Cancer Trust in Dorset; and Dorothy House hospice and the Neo- Natal Appeal at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. “The guests had a real VIP experience including visits from the first team squad and youth players,” said Grapevine business development manager Paul Lappage.
