Even though I have spent 25 years looking at walls, roofs and floorboards, working with buildings is still endlessly interesting. I did an Arts degree at Cambridge, and had a great time living in France and Italy before I joined the real world, had a family and trained as an RICS chartered building surveyor. Since then I have worked right across the spectrum; in the public sector for

WHAT DOES YOUR COMPANY DO? Our aim is to help clients get the best out of their buildings. We draw up plans for building control and planning permission, condition reports and give advice on repairs for landlords and tenants, provide due diligence advice and valuations for residential and commercial buildings as well as lease-plans and building surveys. And, through our affiliation with Dilaps UK, a national dilapidations specialist, we provide dilapidations reports for landlords and tenants at the end of a commercial lease.


IF YOU COULD TURN THE CLOCK BACK WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY? I would have run my own business from day one, rather than have worked for a national firm of surveyors. I can see that the experience was useful, but there’s nothing like being your own boss.


WHICH BUSINESS PERSON OR COMPANY DO YOU ADMIRE MOST AND WHY? Kevin McCloud from Grand Designs. He started with an Arts background and used his artistic skills to keep moving and learning; from paint colour to eco-villages, increasingly involved in building-orientated and practical activities. He is brilliant at publicity and finding new markets and I’m insanely jealous that he’s rich and on the telly!
