ent and increase revenues s parking

Over the past decade, the parking

industry has quietly undergone a radi- cal transformation by pioneering the use of cutting edge wireless communi- cation technologies. Modern Access Systems, a Canadian parking technology developer and manu- facturer, has long been at the forefront of advancing parking technology and now its latest terminal – The Esprit – is one of the first to use the power of Cloud Com- puting to enhance operational efficiency and ease of use.

Cloud Computing is hailed as the

newest techno grail, with financial and manufacturing businesses estimated to spend over 100 billion dollars in the next five years to keep pace. Essentially it is a single internet-based platform where re- sources, services, software and informa- tion are provided to devices on demand. Adapting it for the parking industry allows everyone to use all the various automated applications without having to change their existing software.

“Our Esprit terminals are state of the

art fully PCI compliant,” explains MASI President Grant Furlane. “Cloud technology means everything is accessible anywhere with online por- tals that allow the property owner or

manager to log onto the internet and see exactly what is happening at the meter in real time and generate instant rev- enue reports. Even by individual stall. Clients can get a parking pass by PDA or laptop. Staff can register permits. Mobile enforcement units can monitor and issue citations. All this can happen for both on and off the street parking.”

The ESPRIT Pay Machine system can include any or all three components:

“We’ve tried to think of everything

that could be needed,” adds Furlane. “Pay and Display, Pay by Space and Pay By License Plate. The best news is that it’s all scalable. You can get the complete system right away or upgrade as budgets allow.”

“Here’s how a virtual parking

permit program can work. You log onto your parking pass portal on the cloud server, register the property and upload
