Hollington area of Hastings. It was set up to raise funds to help local people, as well as donating to Macmillan Cancer Support. The original idea came about after a popular local man died of cancer at a young age, leaving behind a family. clear structure behind the fund raising, and so HSGC was formed. Two local born

sportsmen have also backed the cause by agreeing to be patrons, Gareth Barry from Manchester City and England, and speedway rider Lee Richardson. “The response has been amazing,” said Dave Bailey, who is chairman of the committee. “We decided at our very first meeting that the Hastings Half Marathon would be a good starting point to get the ball rolling. keen runners, but there were also the non-runners who walked round, and even some younger members of the community joined and raised money. The atmosphere was fantastic and a couple of people even dressed up for

the occasion, we had Zorro and Donald Duck who were a real hit with the younger spectators.” HSGC expect to raise around £5,000 to £6,000 from the half marathon. “If we can help a family in need,

whether it’s someone who needs assistance to purchase a wheelchair or a couple whose young child is in Great Ormond Street Hospital and they need help with train fares, then we will do all we can to support them,” said Bob Bowles, one of the treasurers. “We already have people wanting to sign up for next year and have been told by the marathon organisers that HSGC are looking to be the biggest fundraisers in the event.” Wymeswold Waddle 5 and Fun Run
