A

part of Kelowna’s early history is being salvaged and recycled following a purchase by Kelowna International Airport. For the fi rst time in 30 years the airport has acquired property for future expansion, on Old Vernon Road across from the Ellison Community Hall.

The property was built by the Bornais Family, who came to the valley in the early years of the last century. Mr. A Bornais worked for the British North American Tobacco Company in Kelowna, and he and Josephine Christien were the second couple to be married in the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Sadly the buildings on the site have suffered too much deterioration to be relocated, but much of the fabric of the buildings is being salvaged, including some large planks which were originally cut with a circular saw. Thanks to the Central Okanagan
