Haydock and Bob Alderson, have played together for much longer than the band has existed. Some of the precision of the group’s live show can be traced back to many long hours spent playing metal, and from the age of around fourteen, Joe, James and Alex have gigged regularly. It is fair to say that occasional nods to heroes Iron Maiden can be found in songs such as Te Light Infantryman, and guitarists Alex and Joe are no strangers to throwing in the odd solo. Other major influences on the band are Canadian legends Great Big Sea; Joe recalls “our family were sent a CD one Christmas by some Canadi- an friends, it’s always been a favourite of mine from an early age”. heavily inspired by punk bands like Bad Religion to whom many days were spent skateboarding as teenagers. A punk ethos of “do it yourself ” is also fundamental to the band and until a radio session at Imperial College Radio in mid March, they had recorded everything in Joe’s bedroom or Alex’s lounge.
was offered a place at Birmingham Conservatoire to study Jazz guitar... It was poor, it was very poor. I leſt aſter a year and enrolled on Huddersfield University’s mental health nursing course.” Likewise, James had a varied upbringing in music: “I had an eclectic musical background I guess, just from my drum lessons. When I was really young the first music I listened to was my Dad’s old Status Quo and ZZ Top records and stuff like that. Tat kind of got me into bands, and that’s probably where the drumming came from, although as far as I can remember I always wanted to play drums. I started playing piano, like most people, but once I started having drum lessons I got into all sorts, because you play so many different styles, like Buddy Rich, and swing stuff, to samba rhythms.”
