Turtle Trot Supports Lovers Key Park

healthy, rewarding experi- ence awaits participants in the sixth annual Turtle Trot 5K Run & Walk at 8 a.m. (check-in time 7 a.m.), April 30, at Lovers Key State Park, south of Fort Myers Beach.


The course follows a hard- packed shell path along Black Island Trail, heads up a 38-foot- high Calusa Indian mound, continues across two bridges and concludes at the beach. The


event, sanctioned by the Fort Myers Track Club and sponsored by Whole Foods, Angel Animal Hospital, Sweet Tomatoes, Everglades Shirt Factory and Outfitters, Road ID and Bonita Community Health Center, will benefit Friends of Lovers Key, the nonprofit that protects, preserves and supports the park.

MBSR Talk and Classes in Bonita Springs

free presentation on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) will be held from 1 to 7 p.m., April 21, at the Brooks Executive Suites, in Bonita Springs. The event discusses the benefits of taking a full, eight-week MBSR course, also hosted by Integrative Mindfulness (IM), from May 3 through June 30, with classes from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesdays; 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays; and an all-day Saturday or Sunday retreat. MBSR is a combination of mindfulness meditation, gentle, yoga and more than three decades of scientific research pio- neered by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. IM founder Madeline Ebelini, who will lead the classes,


completed intensive training with senior university faculty, including Kabat-Zinn, and then earned a master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology at Naropa University. She is a prac- titioner of mindfulness meditation and yoga and is also a Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher. Ebelini says she has felt the positive influence of MBSR in her own life, and has also, “… witnessed remarkable improvements in the lives of people who have completed these workshops.”
