Floriculture cluster for Europe

The joint venture between flower auctions FloraHolland and Landgard is now in full swing. The first day of the auction in late November 2010 was an historical milestone. The unison of three auctions as part of a transnational collaboration has reinforced the floriculture cluster in the whole Euro region. Veiling Rhein- Maas came into being by merging three auctions: the German auctions at Lüllingen and Herongen, owned by Landgard, and the Dutch one at Venlo, owned by FloraHolland. Together these three auctions represent sales expected to total €250 million. 2,300 customers, 4,000 flower and plant growers, and 400 staff are connected to this new venture. The local area itself boasts the key reason behind this joint venture: the drive to concentrate supply in the Euro region. Costs can be reduced by having a single large floriculture clock, both in business operations and in the chain, from the perspectives of both suppliers and buyers in floriculture. The official opening took place on 24 January 2011, on the eve of the IPM (Internationale Pflanzen Messe) event in Essen, Germany. ‘Arizona Apricot’ is hot for 2011

Wondering what will be the hot new varieties for next season? All-America Selections promises to have the answer. Benary’s Gaillardia ‘Arizona Apricot’ is Flower Winner 2011. Judges noted the distinctive apricot flower color of the 3-3 ½-inch (7-8 cm) daisy-like flowers, described as exceptionally lovely and lighter in colour than traditional gaillardia. Its blooms have yellow edges that deepen to a rich apricot in the centre. The compact 12-inch (30 cm) tall plants offer bright green foliage and a tidy uniform habit. Blooming from early summer into autumn, ‘Arizona Apricot’ is free flowering, covering the plant with bright blooms that look great in mass. ‘Arizona Apricot‘ is relatively maintenance free and drought- tolerant once established. This is the first gaillardia series from seed and a perfect match with ‘Arizona Sun’ and ‘Arizona Red Shades’. Its excellent branching habit has flushes of flowers throughout the summer and creates a great impact in pots, mixed containers or the landscape. For more information visit www.benary.com
