BAY AREA BUILDERS ASSOCIATION NEWS Going for the Gold
he Bay Area Builders Association is ‘going for the gold’ with each of its scheduled luncheons this year. We started our year with a sold-out crowd at our February luncheon, which featured Houston's own Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale. Jim's willingness to share the personal and business struggle he faced after the warehouse fire at Gallery Furniture was remarkable. His belief that we are in the greatest state in the country--with Houston as the apple of its eye--left us feeling uplifted and motivated to succeed as we move forward in 2011! Our deepest thanks to "Mack", and we hope he'll come back to see us again soon.
T
After the Q&A session, Jim was presented with a framed sword and sheath from the BABA Support Our Troops/Operation Finally Home (OFH) program as a thank- you for his generous donation towards the charity. Gallery Furniture donated complete household furniture to four of the wounded Marines’ homes, built by OFH and our awesome community of associates. Founded in 2005, the OFH program builds homes for wounded U.S. servicemen and their families, donating the homes mortgage-free to these worthy recipients.

In March, BABA will welcome Frank Lucco as guest speaker on the hot-button topic of appraisal issues. Frank will focus his presentation on four areas: 1) Home valuation code of conduct 2) Dodd-Frank Act 3) Appraisal management companies 4) New construction appraisal issues
We as builders have been searching for
ways to overcome the difficulties we are experiencing in the appraisal arena. As a leader in his field, Frank will provide us with the most current information and suggestions on how to effectively combat these issues.
Sure to be a Huge Hit
In April, we're pleased to feature Pattie Huey of Prudential Gary Greene Realtors and Shawn Dauphine, the Houston Association of Realtors MLS director. We look forward to a lively and spirited discussion of HAR and various real estate issues. Please mark your calendars for this special presentation on April
5...and remember to register early!
BABA's popular Forecast Luncheon will take place on May 3, with David Jarvis from Metrostudy bringing us up to date on the forecast for the homebuilding industry. We've sold out this event in years past and expect to do so again this year.
It is our honor to feature Dan Wallrath, founder of Bay Area Builders Association Support Our Troops/Operation Finally home on June 7. Voted one of CNN's Top 10 Heroes in 2010, we are excited to hear how an initiative that began with the Bay Area Builders Association is now going nationwide.
Our BABA luncheon prices are now $15 for early registration and $20 for late registration and at the door. Why not go ahead and sign up for the rest of the year? Please contact Karen Krenek at kkrenek@
ghba.org to request registration for the remainder of the year; advance payment of all luncheon fees is required for those who request preregistration.
