HOMEAID RECOGNIZED FOR THREE PROJECTS

HomeAid Houston was honored at the Santa Maria Hostel Gala last month for three projects the charity has completed. The 2011 Gala, “Angels Among Us,” honored HomeAid and The John P. McGovern Foundation for their efforts to help Santa Maria realize its mission “to empower women and their children to become alcohol and drug free,” and they are committed to providing services for community improvement and enrichment. HomeAid is a 501(c)3 charity that builds transitional housing for Houston’s homeless. The projects were Santa Maria’s House of Hope, Project Independence and CBRE Cares.

HOUSE OF HOPE

The House of Hope Transitional Housing complex consists of eight buildings with 60 apartment units and two 16-bed dormitories. The facility provides a safe haven for up to 199 transitionally homeless men, women and children on any given night. This $3.6 million project, the second largest in the nation since the inception of HomeAid, required substantial support from the builder community. HomeAid partnered with Davis Brothers Construction, Lennar Homes and Beazer Homes and all their suppliers and vendors. House of Hope was a critical provider of services for Katrina and Rita evacuees in 2005 and 2006.

20 PROJECT INDEPENDENCE

Project Independence was a HomeAid Care project designed to renovate and restore five apartments and two common area bathrooms for Santa Maria's Spring Branch location. These apartments will assist Santa Maria in its effort to support and serve homeless female veterans. HomeAid partnered with the Greater Houston Builders Association's Remodelors Council to demolish and refurbish the bathrooms. Interior designers donated their time to enhance the interiors of each apartment.

CBRE CARE DAY

CB Richard Ellis joined HomeAid Houston during its “Get Out and Give Back Build Month” through CBRE Cares, the company’s national corporate philanthropy program. More than 60 volunteers worked together to help improve seven apartments at the Santa Maria House of Hope campus. Leslie King, HomeAid Houston board member and a member of GHBA’s Remodelors Council, was on-hand to lead the charge. The goal was to complete seven apartments in one day, allowing the agency to better meet the needs of its clients.

“It was an honor to be recognized at the annual Santa Maria Hostel Gala,” said Parke Patterson, president of the HomeAid board. “The work that Santa Maria is committed to within Houston’s homeless community is an inspiration to everyone involved with HomeAid. We look forward to continuing our efforts to fight homelessness in Houston with this important organization.”
