Dartmouth’s Estate Agents this T

month. Firstly, Marchand Petit are moving from their current premises in Raleigh Street to take over the current premises and residential sales business of Freeborns Estate Agents who presently occupy premises on the corner of Hauley Road and Lower Street. The owners of Freeborns, David and Tom Freeborn, have decided to reposition the focus of their agency, concentrating the business instead on local lettings and commercial property, whilst David is also planning to leverage his long experience of surveying and professional property services . Peter Gardner, Director of Marchand Petit, said, “We have long coveted Freeborn’s trading position, located as it is, in a prominent place in Dartmouth. We will be undertaking an extensive refurbishment of the Freeborn premises during March to create a stylish and contemporary office from which to promote our expanded property sales operation.” At the same time, David and

Tom Freeborn will move their new operations into one of Marchand Petit’s old offices in Raleigh Street whilst Lesley Challacombe of Singer and Singer, who has been trading from the upstairs office at Freeborns, will be taking Marchand Petit’s other office – a neat solution for all concerned!

The new ‘Freeborns’, under the ownership of Tom Freeborn and assisted by David, Carol Freeborn and Debbie will then develop and expand its residential lettings business as well as the sale and rental of business/commercial premises, the sale of holiday chalets and provision of Energy Performance Certificates. Freeborns has been steadily growing its lettings business since 1992 and concentrates on long-term lets of more than 6 months. Their existing clients and landlords will see no change

here’s been a slight shuffling of the pack amongst

to their current business relationship with the firm. Tom will retain the existing 01803 832045 telephone number but will have a new website and new email info@freebornsproperty.

The surveying/professional services side of the Freeborns business will develop and be known as ‘David Freeborn Chartered Surveyor and Valuer’, operating from the Freeborns new office at 2 Raleigh Street but with a new 01803 411163 number, new website - www.davidfreeborn. and new email - david- Services will include property surveys, building insurance valuations, valuations for open market assessment, rental, divorce or probate purposes together with professional services relating to property matters. David will be one of only two Chartered Surveyors operating in Dartmouth. The changes allow both new Freeborns businesses, for the time being, to be VAT exempt, creating significant and competitive savings to be passed on to their clients. Tom Freeborn comments. “There’s never been a better time to concentrate the business on lettings and commercial. The buy to let market grew by 7% in 2009 whilst low interest rates are encouraging investors back into the market. With the sluggish prevailing property market and relatively low values, some owners are renting their properties in the medium term until there is evidence of an upturn in prices and demand. I consider that it is important to specialise in this growing field in order to give our clients the very best and up to date professional service.” Tom currently lives in Kingsbridge and is well placed to manage properties in the Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and surrounding villages and rural areas. For Singer and Singer, Lesley Challacombe said, “The move back to ground floor premises in Raleigh Street will allow us to continue with

our long standing professional approach to both Sales and Lettings which we, Singer & Singer, have been involved with for nearly 40 years. “We have found that since the fire, we have been supported by all our Tenants and Landlords and even though at times we have been difficult to find, our Letting Agency has continued to expand and remain as professional and successful as before, if not more so. “Our experience and knowledge of Dartmouth and surrounding areas has grown over many years and with a dedicated team of experienced staff along with the continued support of our local Tradesmen we will continue to give a high class and personal level of service to all our Clients.” Finally, Marchand Petit have recruited Ian Bransdon (formerly of Woods and Fulfords) to help capitalise on their move to more visible premises and who brings a wealth of estate agency experience gained in the South Hams over the past decade. Peter Gardner says. “We wish David and Tom well in their new ventures. We are excited that these new premises combined with our extensive marketing profile and additional staff will allow Marchand Petit an even better platform from which to promote our clients’ properties.”u
