Event Report | BAPEN Conference Review
Not just any old bag – Pharmacist Becky White delivers a brilliant Pennington Lecture on quality TPN
BAPEN Programmes Chair Pete Turner suffers the consequences of over doing it on the hotel sunbed before the party
The symposium concluded with individual
organisations being urged to collect adequate evidence to demonstrate compliance to the CQC regulations.
Research In symposium 8 BAPEN’s Research and Science committee gave some valuable lessons on how to succeed in nutritional research.
Cuthbertson Medal Lecture This fascinating lecture given by Dr Barbara Fielding from the University of Oxford, looked at the fate of dietary fat, which was particularly poignant in the light of the night before’s goat curry.
Dragons’ Den Four budding nutritional entrepreneurs made excellent pitches for funding from the BAPEN Dragons Pete Turner- Paphitis, Christine Russell-Meaden, Gary Frost-Caan, Ian Fellows-Jones and Zbigniew Zapalowski-Bannatyne. They were looking for £1,000,000 to develop Samantha’s tool belt which features useful devices for a nutrition ward round such as a cattle prod for awkward surgeons. Samantha – Tim Bowling in drag – also had a buzzing appliance from Anne Summers for her ‘special needs on ward rounds’. One can only assume its purpose was to remove lumps from ONS shakes! Dentist Alison Lee did manage to secure £500 to fund her project looking at dental health in intestinal failure patients.
Success Overall BAPEN 2010 was a great success and the programmes
committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make it such a 46 | Complete Nutrition Vol.10 No.6 December/January 2010/11
