TOP young chef Thomas Perkins cooked up a storm at a charity dinner and then joined VIPs as guest of honour. Eleven-year-old Thomas, who


goes to Holmesdale Technology College, Snodland, helped de- vise and prepare a meal for 60 paying guests including Neil Buchanan, presenter of CITV show “Art Attack”. Thomas earned the chance to


help head chef Claire Woods produce the three-course dinner at Woods Restaurant in Tun- bridge Wells, through being crowned junior winner of the Kent Young Chef Award. He and senior winner Steven


Yap, 16, were then treated as guests of honour and enjoyed the meal with the other diners. The awards’ three sponsors –


Woods Restaurant, Hadlow Col- lege and Kent Frozen Foods – donated £5 for each diner, rais- ing a total of £300 for the Kent

MID-Kent Coroner Roger Sykes “expressed his regret” at being unable to explain the death of motorcyclist Darren Saunders (36) in a fatal road accident in Tonbridge Road, Maidstone. Driver’s 16-month ban for alcohol offence


NEIL Taylor (35) of McArthur Drive,West Malling, was given a 16- month ban for driving while more than twice over the legal alcohol limit. In December last year, Taylor drove a red Ford Fiesta on the A228


at Kings Hill with a reading of 79mg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath. The legal limit is 35. He pleaded guilty and was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
