working artists, from emerging, to mid-career, to Northwest masters. In the past five years, we have commissioned media artworks, sculptures, and interactive installations that invite participation, provide multi-sensory experiences, change with shifting weather patterns, and reflect, both figuratively and literally, the city. Providing a range of experiences for both the artist and the viewer is a critical aspect of our program.
Also important are our partnerships with those capital departments that provide our 1% for Art
funds. We work closely with the departments to develop appropriately scaled artwork projects and to look at both our collections’ needs and the city’s needs when scoping potential projects. We assure different populations greater chance of access to public art by locating artworks in various places around the city.
Most artist commissions and artwork purchases are conducted on a competitive basis, whatever the contract size. At least half of the funds must be allocated to artists living in the Pacific
