SEATTLE’S OFFICE OF ARTS & CULTURAL AFFAIRS

Seattle’s public art program began during a time of economic crisis – the “Boeing Bust” of the early 1970s. At that time, the City of Seattle saw the value of strengthening arts and cultural activities as important to the vitality of the community. For nearly 40 years, the city has provided public art in a variety of forms and settings to its residents and visitors. As Seattle’s public art program enters its 39th year, we face a challenging economic landscape again. Yet we remain dedicated to creating exceptional art experiences in people’s everyday lives.
