Invisalign Now Offered at Dental Wellness of Suffern
L
ooking for an alternative to braces? Non-Invasive straight- ening is now being offered at Dental Wellness of Suffern.
Invisalign is comprised of custom-fit, non-metal, invisible and removable trays which can effectively move teeth as long as they are worn for the recommended amount of time. Although results may vary, treatment time for an Invisalign procedure usually takes between 6 to 18 months.
At the first visit, Dr. Sherri Alpert will take photographs and molds of the teeth. From these photographs and molds, the Invisalign custom-fit trays will be made, and a detailed treatment schedule will be determined. To straighten the teeth into the desired alignment, a series of Invisalign trays are used over the course of the treatment. Each set of trays are worn for ap- proximately two to three weeks. An Invisalign patient will then receive new sets of trays throughout the treatment. The teeth will progressively become more aligned with each new set of trays, until the final set of trays which are shaped for the teeth to be in the fully aligned and desired position.

Local Author’s New Book about Pet Loss and Departure
“I am very excited that Clarkstown
is hosting the county’s first environ- mental summit,” said Councilwoman Shirley Lasker. “This is a wonderful and free opportunity for the whole family to join with others in their community to learn and discuss a variety of issues concerning our environment.” The summit will address issues such as energy and water conservation, local food supply, recycling, green building, green careers, gardening and landscap- ing, biodiversity and local ecology. “This event provides an opportunity
for residents to learn about conservation and raise environmental awareness,” said Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gro- mack. “It also allows the Town to show- case the many initiatives and programs that have resulted in energy savings.”
Clarkstown South High School is lo- cated at 31 Demarest Mill Road, West Nyack. For more information about this event, visit

6 Rockland & Orange Counties H
ave you ever experienced the loss of a pet? If you have, you know how devastating it can be. It is especially difficult to see the effect such an event has on children. For them, the concept of death is an abstract and, often, it is the first time they find themselves facing death. A new book, Daddy Fixes Everything by Ronen Divon, addresses this difficult situation.
The book follows a family of four children and their parents as they cope with the death of their pet hamster. The story begins with a very light humoristic tone, introducing a father who is ever- busy fixing broken toys and household sundries, while surrounded by his children’s commotion. All is well until one child (Danielle) discovers that the pet hamster is not moving. Figuring Dad can fix the hamster as well, Danielle arranges a rescue operation, only to find out that resurrection is not included in her father’s repertoire of skills. The story then takes a different tone as the family, presented with the experience of facing death and its emotional ramifications for the first time, must come to terms with the passing away of their pet. Daddy Fixes Everything provides children and their parents with tools to cope, using age-appropriate language to explain death and departure in realistic terms. Divon shares, “My hope is that Daddy Fixes Everything is a book one can come back to whenever a sense of loss arises, and relive the appreciation of the time well-spent with a loved one.”
