If it’s liquid refreshments you are after, look no further than the tea rooms and restaurant where breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, coffee and cake is all available, the food home cooked using fresh produce, all of it sourced from local suppliers.

The centre also caters for private functions, corporate events and weddings and has its very own private room with amazing views - the Beacons Room - which can be hired for seminars, meetings or a drinks reception. The grounds can also be hired for weddings and the centre can help organise catering, a marquee and flowers.

Other attractions at the centre include an exhibition where

visitors can find out more about the Brecon Beacons National Park. The view is also quite outstanding from here. The venue is known locally as the Mountain Centre, and a quick glance out of the window will show you why.

Visitors can also take a walk around the gentle, landscaped grounds or simply relax in a quiet corner. There are also free children’s trails around the grounds - ask at the information desk for more information.

You can also head straight out onto the moorland common called Mynydd Illtyd - ideal for a short walk, as well as being the start point for much longer walks.

FOOD FESTIVALS

IT’S that time of year when our very own food guru Andrew Powell, of the Visitor Centre Tearooms Libanus, floods the county and surrounding areas with news of Hay Food Festival.

Andrew, the organiser of the Hay-On-Wye event said: “Eating, drinking and reading are just about the most enjoyable things you can do in your spare time. So it goes without saying that if you like good food, good company and a good book then this is the festival for you.”

The Hay Food Festival is taking place this year on Saturday, June 26 and for those who know and love Hay on Wye, this date will mark the eighth successful year of the Hay Food Festival.

On the day, an abundance of local food producers will transform the Memorial Car Park in Hay into a dazzling al-fresco marketplace bursting with Welsh flavour and enthusiast foodies can choose to sample a little bit of everything, or tuck into their favourite foods - and if eating proves to be thirsty work, there are plenty of cafes and bookstores around where they can take a break. Throughout the day, there will also be fantastic entertainment on offer.

Other diary dates for food enthusiasts include the Brecon Beacons Food Festival on October 2, to be held in the Brecon Market Hall and the town square - a must for all food lovers.

The aim of the event is to provide a shop window for food producers from the National Park and surrounding areas, and in a bid to showcase the food and farming industry by increasing people’s awareness of the variety and quality of what is available locally, this food festival - one of the most eagerly awaited dates of the culinary calendar - is again free for all.
