word’. Harvey recalls drinking from ‘col- ored only’ water fountains, “My mom got arrested in front of me for jumping on a white woman for slapping me for drinking from the wrong water fountain as a kid.” Harvey’s good work ethics and strong faith base has helped him survive, get over it, and move on. To those who criticize him, Harvey says, “I am not going to let a person stop me because they are ignorant. I have no reason to use race as an excuse, I use it as a reason; ok, you don’t like black people? Fine then, I’m going to be big, black and on TV, how do you like that?” One of Harvey’s other passions has

been working with children, “if you can get a person young enough you can affect them before they become an adult.” Every year, he holds a Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for 100 boys who are raised by single moms to mentor them on the prin- ciples of dreaming and manhood. Harvey works with Disney and flies in 50 boys and 50 girls to Disney World for the Dis- ney Dreamers Academy to explore their dreams for 4 days. He and his wife have the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Founda- tion which has created the Girls Who Rule the World Mentoring Weekend where they introduce 100 girls to the principles of be- ing a woman: how to dress, how to talk, how to expect to be treated and what to expect from men. Harvey also provides scholarships for children who wouldn’t otherwise be able to go to school. Using his good work ethics and a strong

faith base, Harvey states that anything is possible, “I don’t care what faith base you have, and you need to have one in order to make it. There will be many times when the work will be very difficult and you will need a strong faith base to get you through.” With this said and done, Harvey has several projects that he is currently working on. As of 2010, Steve Harvey is the new host of Family Feud, where he provides the show’s viewers and contes- tants lots of laughs. Ratings have increased 40% since Harvey joined the show. Al- though it may seem like an easy job, Har- vey claims it is not that simple when you have every contestant say that they could really use the money, “I feel for them, I wish I could give them all money and have everybody win.” Steve Harvey has taken his nationally syndicated radio show The Steve Harvey
