SCMBDC Presents 2010 Leadership Award to Southern California Gas Co.’s President/CEO Michael Allman

CMBDC recognized Southern Cali- fornia Gas Co. and its president and CEO, Michael W. Allman, for their


outstanding leadership in developing and promoting small and minority-owned businesses at the council’s 26th annual Leadership Award dinner. The Leadership Award was presented


to Allman and The Gas Company, a long- time SCMBDC corporate member, at The Beverly Hills Hotel on October 15. The award is given to an individual and/or cor- poration whose achievements and leader- ship in the business community have re- sulted in positive results for small and minority-owned businesses. “For the past 30 years, The Gas Com-


pany has been an outstanding partner of the council’s in advancing minority busi- nesses,” according to SCMBDC President John W. Murray, Jr. “As president and CEO of the company, Michael Allman has continued this tradition of excellence and we are pleased to honor them both with our 2010 Leadership Award.” In accepting the award, Allman said the


company’s procurement of goods and ser- vices “should reflect the diversity of our


customer base and we are proud that near- ly 35% of our 2009 spending was with certified diverse business enterprises -- more than any other California utility.” He accepted the award on behalf of all Gas Company employees who are respon- sible for the company’s supplier diversity achievements. Allman became president of The Gas


Company in March 2010. Previously, he served as president and CEO of Sempra Generation, another subsidiary of Sempra Energy, overseeing the operation of mer- chant power plants throughout North America. Allman has spearheaded the de- velopment of several groundbreaking re- newable energy projects, including the country’s largest solar photovoltaic plant in Boulder City, Nevada. He has held several leadership posi-


tions with Sempra Energy and its subsid- iaries, including chief financial officer of Sempra Global, president of Sempra Tech- nology Ventures, vice president of corpo- rate planning and development and vice president of audit services. CEO, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.; Earvin “Magic” Johnson, chairman and CEO, Magic Johnson Enterprises, and founder and chairman, Magic Johnson Foundation; Alfred E. Bollenbach, co-chairman and CEO, Hilton Worldwide, and Robert A. Iger, CEO, The Walt Disney Company. At a reception before the dinner, the


council gave “in appreciation” awards to several individuals, including: Mitzi Mu- rakami, Kaiser Permanente; Linda Stone, APR Consulting; Yolanda Padilla, The Gas Company; Yvonne Wasson, Pacific Graphics, Inc.; Tess Conyers, Hilton Worldwide, and Bonnie Nijst, Zeesman Communications.
