Area man faces multiple charges

County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cody Troy Ford, 23, of Weaver- ville, on several charges Tuesday (Nov. 16) after he supposedly stole $240, a cell phone and tried to run


from law enforcement officers. According to Lt. Randy Sorrells,


Ford is charged with larceny after breaking and entering, breaking and/or entering, felony robbery, common law robbery and resisting officers. Sorrells said he was also charged with probation violation with bond set at $85,000.

Christmas Candlelight Tour returns to Vance


On Dec. 4, guided tours will


provide visitors to the Zebulon B. Vance Birthplace a glimpse of Christmas past as it may have been celebrated in the southern Appalachian mountains. From 4 pm-7 pm, the site will


hold its annual Christmas Can- dlelight Tour. Te two-story re- constructed log house, decorated in the style of the 1830s, will be opened for guided tours. Troughout the house, decora-


tions made of native greenery such as holly, boxwood, pine boughs,


galax, and rhododendron, will be placed. As the groups, guided by costumed guides, move through the house, they will experience Christmas as it may have been celebrated in the early 19th cen- tury. Troughout the evening, acous-


tic Christmas music will be per- formed in the Visitor Center by Primrose. Primrose is an eclectic blend of musicians who love music of various styles. Additional ac- tivities will be offered for visitors in the Visitor Center by members

Site, the birthplace and childhood home of Zebulon B. Vance, North Carolina’s Civil War governor, is an agency of the N.C. Depart- ment of Cultural Resources.
