North Buncombe ‘Santa for Seniors’ For nearly 40 years Meals On

Wheels has been serving the homebound elderly of Asheville and Buncombe County with food and helpful programs with the goal of allowing seniors to live independently in their homes for as long as possible. “We’re more than a meal,” Development Di- rector Terri Bowman explained. “And programs like the ‘Santa For Seniors Project’ help bring the holiday spirit home for both our seniors and donors alike.”

cancelled schools in Buncombe County. Te system announced Feb. 14 as the makeup day. Further makeup days will be determined after the holiday break. Te schools previously announced Jan. 3 and March 3 as makeup days for snow days missed earlier in December.

Similar to “Operation Christ-

mas Child” that collects shoebox- es filled with gifts for children, the “Santa For Seniors” project collects filled shoeboxes to dis- tribute to Buncombe County’s homebound elderly. Te annual project provides a combination of individual gift bags and wrapped gift boxes to more than 500 Meals On Wheels clients during the hol- iday season. Te “Santa for Seniors” is just one of several programs that Meals

On Wheels provides. Te small nonprofit also operates a Pet Food program, Volunteer Connections, Ensure Supplement and a Snow Box (filled with emergency food rations) program that will go out over the next two weeks. Anyone wanting additional in-

formation volunteering and/or supporting Meals On Wheels in other ways can call Bowman at 253-5286 or go to mowabc.org.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

at Emmanuel Lutheran We’ll be Home for the Holidays – With Your Help!

Each weekday, Meals On Wheels serves up friendly visits and a hot, nutritious lunch to nearly 500 homebound seniors living in Asheville and throughout Buncombe County. They provide helpful programs that go a long way in allowing the elderly to remain in their own homes among familiar surroundings and maintain their dignity while aging. This benefi ts the senior, their family and our local community.

Meals On Wheels is NOT a government agency. We’re a grass roots, locally-based non-profi t that is committed to serving homebound seniors in Buncombe County. Our small staff together with an army of over 350 volunteers tackles the job of feeding over 500 people each day. Over the years, we’ve grown to become Western North Carolina’s largest meal delivery service provider because of the support we receive from Buncombe County residents, businesses, churches and civic groups.

This holiday season we hope you’ll consider making a donation to Meals On Wheels so that together, we can help our homebound seniors stay in their home for the holidays and all year long!
