Q

Last time we spoke, you mentioned that you had a transformation when you were studying at university, and that this led you on the path you are following now. Tell us a little about this time.

I

was really pleased to have the opportunity to discuss Punk Science and the Black Hole Principle with award-winning author, international speaker and purveyor of radical ideas, Dr Manjir Samanta-Laughton,

Q

What inspired you to call your book Punk Science, Inside the Mind of God; it’s a very

dynamic, new, fresh approach to name a science book something so funky?

MSL Well, the Punk Science name came to me in a vision really. The whole idea came to me in a single download. It’s a light-hearted title, but it’s also quite serious because punk is like the British spirit of rebellion, you know, to have a look at the status quo and shake it up. So what I’m doing in Punk Science is saying, this is not the orthodoxy, this is something new, this is something different, this is academic – academics aren’t going to like this, but here it is, in your face.

MSL I was studying medicine to be a doctor. I was very much a sceptic of all the psychic phenomena and complementary therapies. My parents are both doctors and I had been brought up in this scientific way, so when I got to medical school I really didn’t know anything about these things. It was when I went to a yoga class that my friend had signed me up for on Freshers week, and when I turned up, that was when things started to get a bit strange. I had a sense that I was meant to be there and for someone who was completely sceptical, that was an odd experience. I started to get a sense of past-life memories and at that time I didn’t even believe in past-life memories. So basically I did some kind of mantra and ended up having a kundalini, an awakening, which in terms of ancient Hinduism means in union with the universe. And basically, that is what happened to me during this yoga class. It completely changed my life. I suddenly went from sceptic to having the light switched on. It was almost like knowing everything in the universe at once, and getting the message that everything is one. As you can imagine, this was a pretty usual experience to have at medical school.

Q

This must have changed how you approached your medical studies in that you were now aware of a different energy?

MSL It completely changed everything. I was only 18 at the time; it was during my first three weeks of medical school. I didn’t tell very many people about it either. But what it did make me look at was at how disconnected medicine is, how much disrespect people had for life, and for patients. I was starting to feel my own energy field, and I just knew that this energy field was responsible for health, and if you could tap into this energy field then you could actualise some healing effects. I didn’t study to be healer until much later than that, but I went through the whole of my time at medical still in a sort of observation mode, watching what the medical profession
