Journals for Good


Ecojot, a manufacturer of eclectic no- tecards, journals, cards and calendars based 100 percent on post-consumer recycled materials, has leveraged its pro-social position in a new relation- ship with the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI). At the New York Stationery Show last May, the company unveiled a new collection of journals and children’s sketchbooks. The proceeds from the line will support JGI, includ- ing its global environmental and humanitarian youth program, Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots.


Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, JGI’s founder and a UN Messenger of Peace, is world renowned for her groundbreak- ing chimpanzee behavioral research, which transformed scientific percep- tions of the relationship between hu- mans and animals. Founded in 1977, JGI continues Dr. Goodall’s research and is a global leader in the effort to protect chimpanzees and their habitats. The Institute also is widely recognized for establishing innovative community-centered conservation and development programs in Africa, as well as Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots. JGI and its iconic founder have long recognized the efforts of companies – such as Ecojot – that take positive steps toward making the world a better place.


The covers of Ecojot’s collection of journals and sketchbooks feature unique illustrations of endangered species, including chimpanzees, which Dr. Goodall has studied and advocated for over the past 50 years. In addition, the line will feature giant pandas, Sumatran rhinos and whoop- ing cranes, which are discussed at length in Dr. Goodall’s most recent book, “Hope For Animals and Their World.”


“Jane Goodall ventured into what is now Tanzania’s Gombe National Park to document the behavior of wild chimpanzees. Her work there would inspire generations of Earth’s citizens to look at animals – and sustainabil- ity – in new ways,” said Mark Gavin, co-founder of Ecojot. “Included in her tool chest were idealism, pas- sion, and her journals. Now, 50 years later, we are honored and humbled to create journals and sketchbooks supporting the Jane Goodall Institute – journals and sketchbooks that allow new, younger thinkers to express their idealism and passion.”
