he Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) held its 24th


annual Entrepreneurial Woman’s Conference


and Women’s Business & Buyers Mart on September 22 at McCormick Place-West, attracting over 2,000 participants seeking contract opportunities and resources to start or expand their businesses. The annual Women’s Forum Breakfast kicked-off the event, featuring nationally-recognized women business owners who shared their personal stories of business success, and how they overcame their greatest personal and professional challenges. Moderated by best-selling author and Chicago Sun-Times syndicated financial columnist Terry Sav- age, this year’s panel included: Janice M. Christiansen, pres- ident and CEO, J.C. Schultz Enterprises, Inc./The FlagSource; Sheila C. Johnson, CEO, Salamander Hospitality; vice chair- man/owner, Monumental Sports & Entertainment; and Brenda Loube, M.S., FAWHP, principal and founder, Corporate Fit- ness Works. Mellody Hobson, a nationally recognized voice on finan-


cial literacy and investor education, a regular financial con- tributor on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” and the president of Ariel Investments, shared her secrets for business success when she was interviewed by Terry at the Hall of Fame Awards Luncheon where the WBDC honored entrepreneurs, advocates and corporations for their advocacy and support of women’s economic development and empowerment. The 2010 Hall of Fame award recipients are: 2010 Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year – Francine Manilow, owner and president of Manilow Suites, Inc.; 2010 Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year – Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) Success, Marie L. O’Brien, president and CEO of Enterforce, Inc.; 2010 En- trepreneurial Woman of the Year – Rising Star, Kimberlee J. Burt, owner and executive director of A Child’s Space; 2010 Advocacy Award – Arabel Alva Rosales, president of AAR & Associates, Ltd.; 2010 Corporate Support – NBC 5 Chicago. The Women’s Business & Buyers Mart, the oldest and larg-


est business opportunities fair for women business owners in the country, featured more than 200 government and corporate buyers who are committed to purchasing products and services from women business enterprises. Proceeds from the event benefited the Center’s ongoing programs and services that sup- port and accelerate women’s business ownership and strength- en their impact on the economy.
